Celtic legend no longer in the running for Southend United job

Celtic legend Henrik Larsson is no longer thought to be in the running for the managerial vacancy at Sky Bet League One club Southend United according to Sky Sports sources.

The 48-year-old former Hoops goal machine is currently out of work after leaving Swedish club Helsingborgs IF last month, following some social media abuse.

Larsson attended Southend United’s fixture at MK Dons on Saturday and is thought to have held initial talks with the club’s board over the managerial vacancy at Roots Hall. It is now believed that The Shrimpers have been priced out of offering terms to Larsson and the Swede is no longer in contention for the job.

Southend United have lost seven of their nine matches in Sky Bet League One this season, their 1-0 victory at Stadium MK being their only three-point haul. A torrid start to the campaign saw former boss Kevin Bond sacked after just five months in charge of the Essex club.

Only AFC Wimbledon and Bolton Wanderers, a side which started the season with a -12 point deduction, sit below The Shrimpers in the league table and the pressure is on the Southend United board to make the right managerial appointment.

Southend United welcome Accrington Stanley to Roots Hall in their next Sky Bet League One fixture on Saturday afternoon.
