Sunderland still in the hunt for a new left-back

Sunderland are keen on signing another left-back.

The Black Cats have a lack of competition and depth in the position and are looking to address that before the end of August, according to a report by Shields Gazette.

Jack Ross has been playing youngster Denver Hume there for the opening two games of the season but took him off at half-time against Ipswich Town at Portman Road yesterday.

The Scottish boss said, as per a report by the Shields Gazette: “It was tough, I can’t hide from that because I took Denver off and it was a purely tactical decision.”

When asked about new signings, Ross said on Thursday: “We’ve enquired about quite a few. When the League and Championship window closes I would hope that we’ll have a much better understanding of who we might be able to get.”

We’re hoping that because the market in which those plans can go to changes then it strengthens our bargaining position as well. The earliest I would imagine [we’d make an addition] would be the middle part of next week.”

Sunderland have drawn their opening two games of the season and will be looking for their first win next Saturday against Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light. In between that they face a trip to Accrington Stanley away in the first round of the League Cup.
