Aberdeen looking to lure Bristol City defender to Scotland

Aberdeen are lining up a move for Bristol City defender Zak Vyner.

The Dons are eager to bring in another centre-back this summer and have set their sights on the 22-year-old, according to a report by Football Scotland.

Derek McInnes’ side are facing uncertainty over the future of key defender Scott McKenna, who is a target for Championship duo QPR and Nottingham Forest, so may bring in Vyner just in case.

Vyner, who is from London, may be allowed to leave Bristol City before the end of the transfer window tomorrow with him down the pecking order under Lee Johnson.

He spent last season on loan in the second tier with Rotherham United but could not prevent the Millers from relegation to League One.

Vyner started his career with the Robins and has risen up through their academy. He made his first team debut in February 2016 in a Championship fixture against MK Dons.

He has since made 13 appearances for Johnson’s side but has found breaking into the starting eleven tough. He spent part of the 2016/17 season on loan at Accrington Stanley in League Two before spending the campaign after in the third tier with Plymouth Argyle.

Vyner has gained plenty of experience during his loan spells so would be a shrewd acquisition by Aberdeen if they can sign him. He needs to leave Bristol City now to get more game time.
