Sunderland nearing deal for Burnley defender

Sundering are nearing a deal to sign Burnley’s Jimmy Dunne on loan until the end of the season according to a report from Chronicle Live.

The Black Cats have had a good season in Sky Bet League One so far, sitting just outside the automatic promotion spots by just one point. But to make sure they avoid the lottery of the play-offs, the club need to bring in some more players so they can overtake Luton Town and get promoted automatically. And it appears that they are not far from signing a player for that cause.

The 21-year-old defender started his career at Manchester United but ended up signing for Burnley after failing to break through into their academy. Dunne is yet to make a league appearance for the Clarets but he has had successful loan spells with the likes of non-league side Barrow, Accrington Stanley and most recently Hearts.

But this would be Dunne’s biggest move to date should the deal be completed in the next few days like expected. It would see him move on loan to a team that most would say is too big for League One and with a series of good performances, it could see him become a hero at the Stadium of Light. It would certainly be a good move for his development and upon his return to Turf Moor at the end of the season he would have a good shout to have a chance playing in the first team next year.
